A BIG Brother-style service, TracerTrak, enabling businesses to track assets outside cellular phone range, will be launched this month by satellite mobile company Globalstar.
The service can monitor the location, activity and behaviour of assets in Australia and its surrounding waters. A tracking device is simply attached to the asset, such as a semi-trailer, shipping container or caravan, and the device sends updates to the Globalstar constellation of 40 low-earth-orbit satellites. The AxTracker MMT is intended to be used for standard tracking services, while the T3 can also monitor behaviours, such as opening the door of a shipping container. The T3 retails for $799 and the MMT for $699, in comparison with the $2000-$3000 price tag for an average satellite modem.
